Mindfulness and being Present

It sometimes feels as if you are too hectic and not enough hours in the day. There is a way to turn the busy hours into a mindfulness exercise and meditation. The first step to this mindfulness and coming into the present, therefore accessing a meditative state is to be as present as you can be. Start with being aware that when the stress comes flooding over you that this will pass. Nothing is permanent, come into an awareness of realising where you are at that moment and how it feels. In your mind you have probably been in many different places all at the same time. Think of the many rooms in your house, how can you be in your study, kitchen and bedroom all at the same time, doesn’t the feeling of wanting to be in another room when you are stranded in the kitchen make you feel stretched and stressed?? “We think therefore we are”. Remember how you think is an indicator to your body to feel. Being present in every task, when working or talking to people about work, be totally present, giving them your attention. When people interrupt a conversation it is because they are not totally present in what you are saying, their thoughts have wondered back into what they think and therefore they are not fully listening, if at all. Doesn’t it feel negative when this happens, because you know you are not heard. With every task no matter how mundane, give it all your attention. We are not saying you can’t then have peripheral vision like a driver, you need to keep alert and safe but be fully focused. Try this and let it permeate your way of being, you will start to experience a calmness that you won’t want to let go of.
