Trees, fill my lungs with the breath that I need,
Let me hold you in and sigh you out,
Let me dance to your tune and fill up with your song.
Let me shelter in the storm, thank you for the fire that keeps me warm.
Hold me when I am reduced to choking,
Try to reach me when I call.

How could we have taken your life away?
Burnt and cut you, struck you and ground you down.
We knew you were our breath and life,
We knew you were the breath that filled us.
The fruit that we ate and the shade in the sun.
The birdsong has gone.

The creepy crawlers are crushed and the dawn has begun
Of a new day, without the rain, without the shade, without the air that we need.
As we gasp like a fish out of water there must be a way,
To sew a new seed, to take a tiny seed and help it on its way.
Help us wake up and take care of the Mother,
Let us become part of her gown of green again.
Help us stop and come out of this slumber.
